Tranquil Tail Grooming™ in Allen, TX — Our Story

This is what it feels like when someone really, really sees your pet. Twenty years as Allen's neighborhood grooming shop, reimagined into a third kind of salon — not a chain, not a stressful independent. A place that feels like home for pets and PAWrents both.

01From Linda & Dora · Co-Owners

Why we reinvented a calmer place.

I’ve spent thirty years figuring out how to make things work that other people said couldn’t — hotels, businesses, systems, people. Bark & Purr is different from all of them. This one, I took over because I love it.

Bark & Purr has been Allen’s neighborhood grooming shop for 20 years — something real, already built, long before we arrived. When the chance came to take it over, I looked at what pet owners in Allen actually had to choose from: the chains, where your dog is a ticket number, and the independents, where quality was inconsistent and the experience was stressful. I saw a shop with two decades of trust already built in, and a chance to reinvent it into a third thing — a place where the groomer knows your dog’s name before you get through the door.

But I couldn’t do it alone. That’s where Dora came in. Dora Valdez Owens is a Director of Marketing at a top advertising agency — strategic, creative, unshakeable. When this opportunity came up, I said: I know this is something you wanted to do next year, but it’s available now. Do you want to do it with me? She said yes immediately. She believed in the vision so deeply she got a second mortgage on her home to make it happen. That’s the kind of partner she is.

“I didn’t just take over a grooming salon. I reinvented a place where pets feel safe and PAWrents feel proud.

I’m on the floor every day — working with the team, greeting the regulars, dancing with the doodles, whispering to the cats. Dora is the creative and strategic partner: the one I call when I’m brainstorming a new idea — Tranquil Tail Grooming™, the logo, the Den Club. Linda brings the heart and the hustle. Dora brings the strategy and the belief. Together, we’ve taken twenty years of neighborhood trust and built something neither of us could have built alone.

What makes Bark & Purr different isn’t any one thing — it’s the accumulation of small decisions made in favor of the pet, every single day. The choice to hand-dry instead of cage-dry. To stop a groom if a dog is too stressed. To build an Academy so our groomers are trained by people who actually groom. To know every regular by name. You feel it when you walk in. The leash goes slack. That’s by design.

02Our philosophy

What we believe about every pet.

1

Every pet is an individual.

Not a size category, not a coat type, not a 9:30 slot. A specific animal with a specific personality and history that our team is responsible for knowing.

2

Emotional wellbeing is part of the groom.

A technically perfect haircut on a terrified dog is not a good groom. Fear is not a grooming tool — it’s a problem to solve.

3

Consistency builds trust.

Same groomer every visit, same approach every time. Pets build trust through repetition — our job is to be reliably calm, gentle, and excellent.

4

The PAWrent relationship matters.

You trust us with a family member. That deserves honest wellness updates, honest communication, honest pricing. We earn trust, then protect it.

5

Quality requires training.

We built the Bark & Purr Grooming Academy because great groomers are grown, not found — trained by people who groom every day.

6

The pickup moment is everything.

Does your pet come bounding out fresh, confident, and straight at you? That prance is what every person on this team builds toward. Every single day.

Our proprietary method

Tranquil Tail Grooming™

The framework Linda developed over years of working with pets who were frightened, reactive, or failed by other groomers. Not a single technique — a complete philosophy of care every Bark & Purr groomer is trained in. The core principle: the pet’s emotional state is part of the groom.

“The best groom I’ve ever done was on a dog other salons had given up on. It took three visits before she let me finish. The fourth visit, she walked straight to my table.

What makes us different

The Bark & Purr Grooming Academy.

We train our own groomers. The Academy is a full curriculum that takes a team member from bather to certified groomer — all inside Bark & Purr, under the same standards we apply to every appointment, trained specifically to our philosophy and our clients.

“We groom our own groomers.” No chain can say that.

Questions PAWrents ask about us.

What makes Bark & Purr different from other groomers in Allen?
We’re a third kind of salon — not a chain where your pet is a ticket number, and not a stressful independent. Every groomer is trained in Tranquil Tail Grooming™ — our own calmer method that goes beyond standard Fear-Free care — your pet is greeted by name, and the day is paced to the animal, not a conveyor belt.
Who owns Bark & Purr?
Bark & Purr has been Allen’s neighborhood grooming shop for 20 years. Linda G., Co-Owner & Managing Partner who is on the floor every day, and Dora Valdez Owens, Co-Owner & Brand Director, took over ownership and reinvented it into what it is today. Linda brings the heart and the hustle; Dora brings the strategy and the brand. Meet the team →
What is Tranquil Tail Grooming™?
It’s our proprietary philosophy of care that every groomer is trained in — a calmer method that goes beyond standard Fear-Free care. The core principle is that the pet’s emotional state is part of the groom — we read the animal first, introduce equipment slowly, build in breaks, and stop before stress becomes fear.
Do you groom both dogs and cats?
Yes. Cats are never an afterthought here — we keep a calmer, separate rhythm with feline-first, minimal-restraint handling, alongside full dog grooming, cat grooming, and calm overnight boarding for both.
How do I book a first visit?
You can book a sPAW Day online anytime, or call or text 972·727·1688 to talk it through first — especially helpful if your pet is anxious. You can also see a transparent, itemized price in about a minute with our cost estimator before you book.
